I’m Philip George, a London-based full-stack engineer who enjoys taking ambiguous ideas and turning them into fast, accessible software. I cut my teeth at MetaDataWorks (hire #6), where I served as the sole front-end developer on a medical-ontology browser for the NHS. I ran weekly demos with non-technical stakeholders, iterated quickly, and helped win a £1.2M, three-year contract. Promoted soon after, I led the front end of our flagship product, delivering an accessibility overhaul to meet government standards and a JavaScript→TypeScript migration that reduced runtime errors and improved developer velocity.
At Dunelm, I helped modernise a core part of the platform: introducing a Node/GraphQL aggregation layer with server-side caching, simplifying data access while improving performance. I also delivered a 10× page-load improvement by fixing inefficient endpoints and implementing end-to-end pagination. At Disperse, I shipped a “Mark Up & Share” feature for annotating and sharing 360° images, and I owned multiple zero-rollback releases. Alongside full-time roles, I’ve consulted and built small products—most recently a Stripe-enabled online store deployed on Vercel, and technical support on a JetBrains “Trend Talks” campaign.
My toolbox: React, TypeScript, Node, GraphQL, Postgres, and AWS. I value readable code, small PRs, TDD where it pays off, and frequent demos. I’m currently open to mid/senior full-stack roles (or early engineering roles at startups). If you need someone who can ship, explain trade-offs clearly, and keep performance and accessibility front-of-mind, I’d love to chat.
